Cultural Capital of Europe 2007: Sibiu was designed following the vote of the European Union
Ministries of Culture Council to be the European Capital of Culture in
2007 together with Luxembourg.

Sibiu is the administrative centre of the Sibiu County, South East Transylvania:

Sibiu is famous for its architecture. All the importatn styles since the medieval period are represented in the city. The city has developed on two uneven platforms: the Upper Town and the Lower Town linked by spectacular passages and stairways. The medieval heritage is still visible: parts of the old defense walls, guild towers and buildings, many of them more than 500 years old. For the past few years, Sibiu has undergone an intense restoration process.
