Synopsis / Sinopsis

Gold can mean glamour, and wealth, and, in most cases, conflict. Since 1989, several multinational companies have come to Turkey to mine gold. The Australian&Canadian joint venture Eurogold is one of them. The process they use involves cyanide leaching, and the communities living in the area have immediately seized the danger it brought to their environment. They took legal actions to resist the mining project, and won in all instances. In spite of that, the mine is still operational, and it is difficult to tell who is the winner in the fight between the local people and the multinational company

Aurul înseamnă strălucire, bogăţie şi, de cele mai multe ori, conflicte. Începînd cu 1989, o serie de companii miniere multinaţionale s-au arătat interesate să extragă aur din Turcia. Eurogold, o companie australiano-canadiană, a fost una dintre ele. Procesul tehnologic propus presupunea deversarea de cianuri, ceea ce a îngrijorat comunităţile din zonă. Cu toate că localnicii au cîştigat procesele intentate companiei în toate instanţele, extragerea continuă ca şi înainte. Cine e învingător în conflictul dintre localnici şi compania multinaţională? O întrebare la care este greu de dat un răspuns.

ASTRA FILM manages an extensive documentary film collection with public screening facilities. The ASTRA FILM archive started in 1990, and it has collected since thousands of documentaries produced in over 70 countries.
