ROMANIA COMPETITION

Promoting the domestic production is one of our main goals, and it is rewarding to see how the Romanian documentary film has evolved over the past years. The eleven films in the selection confirm that, beside the “classic” themes like post-communism, transition, rural vs. urban, disappearing traditions, ethnic minorities, the homeless, or abused children, Romanian filmmakers seek new topics, such as the role of the civil society in Romania, the impact of migration, and urban culture/subcultures.
Promovarea producţiei interne este unul din obiectivele noastre principale şi este o răsplată să vedem cum a evoluat filmul documentar român în ultimii ani. Cele 11 filme din selecţie confirmă că, pe lângă temele „clasice” precum post-comunismul, tranzitia, rural vs. urban, tradiţiile care dispar, minorităţile etnice, copiii fără adăpost sau abuzati, cineaştii români caută subiecte noi precum rolul societăţii civile în România, impactul migraţiei şi cultura/subculturile urbane.

ASTRA FILM manages an extensive documentary film collection with public screening facilities. The ASTRA FILM archive started in 1990, and it has collected since thousands of documentaries produced in over 70 countries.

Due to our focus on the Eastern European and Romanian production, the ASTRA FILM archive holds a unique collection of documentaries documenting the issues of post-communism and transition in the region.
