ASTRA FILM operates as a premier National Center for the Romanian Documentary Film. We posess the most extensive and diverse collection of Romanian documentaries produced in post-communist Romania, as well as a database of Romanian authors and producers.

Domestic documentary film production has been in our focus since the early nineties. With every edition of the ASTRA FILM FESTIVAL, we have acted as a unique showcase for the Romanian documentaries, and a promoter of Romanian filmmakers.

We provide a series of programs to promote Romanian documentary film production in Romania and abroad PROGRAMS & EVENTS , and offer advise to national and international organizations and film festivals in selecting, programing and presenting Romanian documentaries for their events

ASTRA FILM manages an extensive documentary film collection with public screening facilities. The ASTRA FILM archive started in 1990, and it has collected since thousands of documentaries produced in over 70 countries.

Due to our focus on the Eastern European and Romanian production, the ASTRA FILM archive holds a unique collection of documentaries documenting the issues of post-communism and transition in the region.
