DOCSCHOOL COMPETITION

Shot on the Olkhon Island in the middle of Lake Baikal, on the Caucasus front, in Odessa or in remote villages in Ukraine, Transylvania or Germany, the documentaries in the DocSchool Competition present European realities from different perspectives. Young filmmakers choose to make personal, auteur films, in which they try to recover their family's past, rediscover their hometown, wondering whether "home" still means something, find ways of communicating with those close to them, explain their own decisions or dilemmas, or make observational documentaries with characters as diverse as the criminal trying to adapt to life in prison or the soldier looking for a new meaning in life after returning from the battlefield.
