Knit's Island
Ekiem Barbier, Guilhem Causse, Quentin L'helgoualc'h • France • 2023 • 95 min • Premieră națională
How do we conceptualize documentary when its object is a non-factual simulation of reality? Knit’s Island asks this question and at the same time urges us to reconsider what we usually categorize as spectacular or mundane.
A docu-fiction made exclusively from screenshots of a survival, dystopian video game, in which the filmmakers choose avatars as close as possible to a typical small film crew. Mixing interviews and observational shots, Knit’s Island creatively mixes together ciné-vérité, mockumentary and gaming suggesting that its protagonists are ambivalently located in both the socio-historical world and the simulated version of it, thus blurring the borders that usually separate the two.
