In the early 20th century, 150,000 Romanians left for America, dreaming of a better life. Today, other generations are choosing the same path, and the phenomenon is just as relevant today.
More than a century ago, the author's great-grandfather, a peasant from a village at the foot of the Făgăraș mountains, went overseas, returned richer, and with the money he saved in America he bought land. The phenomenon has become part of local folklore, and the great-grandfather's wealth and his American dream have been passed down to other generations who have emigrated to the United States. Using images from the family archive and footage from the village today, the director attempts to retrace the paths of these intersecting destinies. The film evokes a phenomenon of migration that is relatively little known in Romania, but this experience was widespread in all regions in Transylvania, Banat, partly in Maramureș, and throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
