A tragi-comedy, Shahid cleverly satirizes the trans-generational patriarchal structures in Iranian society, religious fanaticism and the statute of refugees in Central Europe.
The Iranian-born filmmaker Narges Shahid Kalhor lives as a political refugee in Bavaria and wants to legally rid herself of the name "Shahid", inherited from a great-great-grandfather who was declared a "martyr". Kalhor mixes tropes from documentary, auto-fiction and musicalto dramatize her family ties to men who have long been in power in Iran and, accordingly,to exorcise the ghosts of her past.
