The documentary Martyr of the Union presents the life and sacrifice of the Bessarabian priest Alexandru Baltaga, an emblematic figure of the unionist movement of March 27, 1918, who paid with his life for his faith and patriotism in the face of the Soviet regime.
Through interviews with historians, archival footage, and emotional reenactments, the film brings to the forefront the courage of an Orthodox cleric and his unwavering effort for the unity and shared identity of Romanians on both sides of the Prut River. With a sensitive cinematic approach, Martyr of the Union, not only tells the story of a life devoted to national ideals and faith but also portrays the suffering of an entire people in the face of historical repression.
