A fascinating cinematic insight into 1968 Romania, bursting with prosperity and optimism, according to the Communist authorities of the time.
Used as a tool of ideological dominance, language defines, describes and at times dissimulates how the social, political and economic reality of a society is actually perceived. In order to analyze the ideology of a dominant elite one must fragment and re-contextualize its discourse. The film is entirely made from materials produced by the Alexandru Sahia Studio in 1968 - the most prosperous and optimistic year of socialist rule in Romania - and shows how an entire state apparatus made impressive efforts in order to maintain social stability in a society that believed it had eliminated all alienating and exploitative work relationships.
