Gabriela Atanasov, Horia Stan and the legendary DJ of the 80s, Sorin Lupașcu will perform a concert at the Astra Film Festival in a memorable retro party, which will take place on Monday, October 16, starting at 21:00, at Sala Thalia ( Chimniță) from Sibiu. The moment wants to revive the atmosphere and excitement of the discos of the 80s. The party is inspired by the film "Playback" by Iulia Rugină, whose protagonist is the DJ Sorin Lupașcu and which will be screened on the same day, at Sala Thalia, starting at 19:00.
What did the parties of the 80s and 90s look like? How did people have fun on the seaside during the communist period and what survives today from those times? Each generation has a stake and a reality that give the specificity and emotion of certain times. During the communist period, access to pop-rock music was very limited, so the only option for people to listen to the music banned by the system was discos.
The documentary "Playback" signed by Iulia Rugină, which can be viewed on Monday, October 16, starting at 19:00, at Sala Thalia in Sibiu, proposes a melancholic journey with Sorin Lupașcu, one of the most famous and popular DJs of the time , among records, equipment, memories and the lost paradise of the Ring disco in Costinești. The film reveals a picture of the transformations of Eastern European society over the last 50 years, through the story of the DJ and archival footage that has never been shown to the public before.
The documentary contains a superb soundtrack, consisting of Romanian and international hits of the 80s, which were mostly listened to by our parents in secret.
After the screening, the audience will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the director and protagonist of the documentary during a Q&A session. The film is in the official Astra Film Festival selection, Romania Competition.
Immediately after the discussion, the public is invited to (re)live the atmosphere of the discotheques of yesteryear in a retro party where DJ Sorin Lupașcu will revive the spirit of music from the 80s.
