
The Astra Film International Documentary Film Festival in Sibiu has opened the registration session for the 2025 edition . The organizers announce that this year they will introduce a new competitive section , the Short Film. Directors from all over the world can register their documentaries for the 2025 edition until April 1, within five competitive sections : Emerging Voices of Documentary, Central and Eastern Europe, Romania , DocSchool and Short Film. This year, the festival takes place from October 19-26 .
Films proposed for the official selection of the AFF2024 edition must be part of the documentary genre. Cinematic qualities and honesty, the courage to approach difficult themes, originality and creativity are particularly appreciated. In addition to the competitive sections, the official Astra Film Festival program will include a series of curatorial selections, thematic sections and special programs.
For the five competition sections, films made after January 1, 2024 will be accepted, as follows:
Emerging Voices of Documentary . Eligible are feature-length documentaries, over 60 minutes long, signed by authors who are on their first, second or at most third film.
Central & Eastern Europe . Section open to feature-length documentaries (over 60 min) that address issues specific to the ex-communist bloc.
Romania. Section dedicated to documentaries produced or co-produced in Romania and/or international productions or co-productions that address issues specific to Romania, regardless of their duration.
DocShort. Documentaries with a maximum duration of 40 minutes are eligible for the new competitive section introduced by AFF. Only European productions/co-productions will be selected.
DocSchool. Documentaries produced or co-produced by universities or film institutes or within postgraduate cinema specialization programs are eligible, regardless of their duration.
