Seif Eddine Shawkat was born in Cluj-Napoca in 1913 as the first born son of Ahmed D. Dzselaleddin, the Secretary of the Turkish Senate, and Hungarian actress Incze Gabriella. Shawkat directed more than 40 films in Romania, Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, and Syria. Before 1945, Sefket`s name became known because of his novel, „Madonna from Kalotaszeg”, from which a successful Hungarian film was soon directed by Rodriguez Endre.
