Astra Film Junior 2026

Slide 1 of 3: The film programme

Education through film, for a generation learning to see the world differently.

Astra Film Junior is Romania's largest documentary film education programme. Since 2009 it has brought true stories from every corner of the world into cinemas and the Astra Dome, chosen to make children and teenagers think, feel and ask more.

The programme is built around three age groups — 6+, 11+ and 15+ — so that every child meets films suited to their stage. After the screenings it continues with discussions led by specialists, workshops in creative writing and filmmaking, and the comic strip competition, all meant to turn a viewing into a lesson in curiosity, empathy and critical thinking.

Year after year, tens of thousands of pupils from Sibiu and across the country come through this programme, making Astra Film Junior one of the largest cultural education experiences in Romania. Now in its 18th edition, it keeps the same mission: to show children that the real world can be as gripping as any invented story.

Six Frames, One Story!

Entries open on18 Oct 2026

Entries are made through the school, by a teacher. Anyone can vote.

After 12 years, the competition returns in a new form: entry is 100% online, at astrafilm.ro. The work is photographed or scanned, uploaded, and joins a public gallery straight away, open to everyone for the length of the festival. Anyone can browse the children's work and vote, without an account.

Each pupil draws a story in 6 panels, with a beginning, a middle and an end. The drawing technique does not matter; the story does — imagination, coherence, and a reading of the theme that is their own.

Pupils in years 0 to IV may take part, entered individually — not as a team — by the teacher who coordinates them.
