Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk / Ukraine, Germany / 2025 / 90 min
On the banks of the Ukrainian Dniester, a pacifist religious community tries to preserve its way of life as floods return and war reaches its quiet village.
Children play by the river while older voices recall the wars and floods that have marked this Ukrainian land. Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk films the community in luminous, patient images, allowing Russia’s invasion to enter almost unnoticed, by word of mouth. When the camera finally travels with their bread to soldiers at the front, two worlds meet—without a single image of combat.
